Have a question about KAMOM? Browse some of our most frequently asked questions listed below. If you can't find what you're looking for, feel free to contact us for more information.
Who is eligible for membership?
KAMOM is for the mothers and other female guardians of multiples. Fathers and other family members are welcome to attend social events and play groups as well as any general meeting if they desire to hear a particular speaker or topic. We ask that only nursing mothers bring children to the general meetings, otherwise childcare should be arranged at home.
If I am pregnant with multiples, should I join now or wait until my babies are born?
We encourage all pregnant mothers to attend meetings and club functions before the babies are born to make a network of friends, learn about the special considerations with multiples and to get advice on a myriad of topics from pediatricians, prenatal care, breast feeding, formulas, etc. When you join is up to you. Some moms wait until the babies are actually born before joining due to difficult pregnancies and fears of the unknown.
Members who joined while pregnant or attended a meeting and then joined within the first month that the babies were born are given new mom gifts and meals are offered. Those that join a few months after the babies are born get the benefits of membership but not necessarily the new mom meals and gifts.
What are the benefits of membership in KAMOM?
Members of have open access to our on-line community, all playgroups, mom nights outings, general meetings, board meetings, family nights out, parties, and picnics.
Can we attend playgroups other than the one to which we have been assigned?
Playgroups have been formed based upon age groupings and special care has been taken to consider developmental issues within those age groupings. While we encourage you to take advantage of the playgroup to which your children should go based on age, we also understand that parents need to accommodate schedules and curiosity about other groups. If your child is on the cusp of two groups, try them both out and then pick the one best suited to your children.
We do discourage newborns/crawlers from attending runners/explorers groups unless they are accompanying an age-appropriate sibling. We also discourage 4 or 5 year olds from attending a newborn/crawlers group unless they are accompanying age-appropriate siblings and no other childcare arrangements could be made for the older child. Close supervision of the kids is warranted at all times.
Why do we do fundraising activities?
KAMOM is a non-profit organization. Your dues are used for refreshments for General Meetings, gifts for speakers, stamps, party supplies and rental fees, new mom gifts, etc. The annual dues do not cover the costs of all the activities that KAMOM holds. All costs must be covered by the club, hence the need to raise funds. The more funds we raise, the nicer and more comprehensive the activities and programs we can offer our members.
Who is eligible to run for board positions?
Any member in good standing who has been a member for at least six months may run for a board position. The president should preferably have been on the board for at least a year previous to her term.
How often does the board meet?
The KAMOM board meets the third Monday of every month unless it falls on a major holiday and then the board determines the meeting date by majority. Board members are expected to attend each board meeting with no more than three absences in a KAMOM calendar year.
What can I do to be more involved but not hold a board position?
You can support the club by attending events and helping with fundraising opportunities, or by becoming a committee member.
Who can attend state and national conventions?
Any interested member can attend either or both of the conventions. The club sends “voting” delegates every year and the rest go just as regular members. Dates and locations of conventions are announced yearly.
